NAPLES – The Seminole Tribe of Florida is guaranteed to have representation in the Class 2A high school softball state championship final four.

Evangelical Christian School will host Moore Haven in a regional final May 17 at 7 p.m. in Fort Myers. Both teams have Seminoles. The winner advances to the state semifinals May 21 at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, which is also the site for the state championship May 22. Clermont is 25 miles west of Orlando.

Seminoles had a big day at the plate in Moore Haven’s 16-9 regional semifinal win against Seacrest on May 14 in Naples. Preslynn Baker belted a two-run home run and had five RBIs, Carlee Osceola smacked three hits and drove in four runs and Teena-Maree Covarrubias delivered three hits and three RBIs.

Others from the tribe on Moore Haven include players Tahnia Billie, Jayleigh Braswell and Halley Balentine, head coach Preston Baker, and team manager Willo James.

Baker and 8th-grader Brooklyn Sergent handled pitching duties for Moore Haven. Baker pitched in the early innings and returned in the seventh.

Moore Haven trailed 5-1 early, but clawed back to keep its season alive.

“It was awesome. They played their butts off,” said coach Baker, whose team upped its record to 15-9. “They did all the work themselves. I’m proud of them.”

Sergent, playing second base, turned a 4-3 double play with first baseman Billie to end the game.

The Terriers, seeded 7th in the region, are one of only two teams in the entire state this postseason to reach a regional final being seeded outside of the top four (No. 7 Pembroke Pines Charter in Class 5A is the other).

ECS, a No. 1 regional seed, blanked Fort Meade, 12-0, in a regional semifinal. Paiton Billie-Alvarado had one hit, one RBI and scored two runs. ECS is 25-2. Other players from the tribe on the ECS rostedr include Paizley Billie-Alvarado, Hadyn Billie-Alvarado, Angelina Yzaguirre and Riley Yzaguirre.
