The South Florida Water Management District will host a public meeting June 26 at 2 p.m. to discuss the Northern Everglades Watershed Protection Plan. This initial workshop meeting is part of the process to update the plans for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed and the watersheds and estuaries for the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers.

Input is sought from the public and stakeholders on the planning process for water quality improvements in the northern Everglades. According to the district, the watershed protection plans will identify projects, activities and programs to improve the quality, quantity, timing and distribution of water in the northern Everglades to support basin management action plans adopted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to achieve total maximum daily loads for the Lake Okeechobee watershed and the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee river watersheds and estuaries.
