FWC to hold webinars on proposed changes to alligator hunting rules

The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will host two webinars on proposed rule amendments to the statewide alligator harvest program.

The webinars will be held Dec. 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and Jan. 4, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The sessions will include a presentation about the proposed rules that would increase alligator hunting during the statewide alligator harvest on most areas to 24 hours a day from its current 17 hours a day rule. The proposed rules also include adding airbows with an arrow tethered to the airbow as a legal method of take. According to the FWC, “the use of airbows would benefit hunters with mobility challenges and youth or smaller framed hunters who may have limited dexterity or strength.”

If approved, the new rules would be implemented starting with the 2022 harvest season.
