HOLLYWOOD  – Former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion boxer Evander Holyfield, who last fought a decade ago, is scheduled to face former mixed martial arts heavyweight world champion Vitor Belfort in an eight-round fight Sept. 11 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood’s Hard Rock Live.

Belfort was originally scheduled to fight Oscar De La Hoya on Sept. 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but De La Hoya, 48, tested postive for Covid-19 and the event was moved to Hollywood with Holyfield as a replacement.

In a post on social media, De Lay Hoya said: “Wanted you to hear directly from me that despite being fully vaccinated, I have contracted Covid and am not going to be able to fight next weekend. Preparing for this comeback has been everything to me over the last months, and I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support. I am currently in the hospital getting treatment and am confident I will be back in the ring before the year is up. God bless everyone and stay safe.”

Holyfield, 58, last fought in 2011. He has notched wins against some of the biggest names in the sport, including Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Riddick Bowe. Holyfield was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015.

Belfort, 44, is a veteran MMA champion from Brazil. He owns fitness training facilities in Boca Raton and Coconut Creek.

The card also includes Anderson Silva versus Tito Ortiz; David Haye versus Joe Fournier; and Andy Vences versus Jono Carroll.

The event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the internet through Musical performers include Anitta, Gente De Zona and Lunay.
