American Heritage girls seek third consecutive state title; OHS boys host regional final

The American Heritage (Plantation) girls basketball team is one win away from its third straight state championship.

The Patriots, who include Seminoles December Stubbs and Tiana Stubbs, ousted Southeast (Bradenton) with a 67-55 win in a Class 5A semifinal Thursday at RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

December Stubbs, a senior guard, scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Tiana Stubbs did not play due to an injury. Tatyana Wyche led Heritage with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Daniella Aronsky scored 18 points.

Heritage will face Pine Forest (Pensacola) in the championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. at RP Funding Center.

In boys action, Okeechobee will try to punch its ticket to the Class 5A Final Four tonight when the Brahmans host Pembroke Pines Charter at 7 p.m. in a regional final. Okeechobee eliminated Boyd Anderson (Fort Lauderdale) with a 65-62 regional semifinal win on Feb. 25. Seminole Silas Madrigal scored 17 points, which included five 3-pointers, and Malcolm Kelly had 18 points.

Okeechobee is 26-2.
