The Seminole Tribe will be well represented in the FHSAA regional softball tournament.

American Heritage-Plantation, which includes Canaan Jumper of the Big Cypress Reservation, will host St. Brendan on May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal. Heritage (12-8) comfortably won its district championship with a 16-1 win against Mater Lakes on April 29. Jumper notched one hit and one RBI.

Seminoles are on two teams in Class 5A. Immokalee, which is led by pitcher/infielder Ava Nunez, will visit Fort Myers High School to face the Green Wave. Okeechobee, which features sisters Elle and Lexi Thomas and head coach Mary Huff, will host Bayside. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on May 6.

Immokalee (17-11) clinched a spot in regionals thanks to Nunez’s strong outing in a 1-0 district semifinal win against Barron Collier on April 27. She allowed just three hits, no runs and fanned six in six innings to earn the victory. She also scored the game’s only run.

The shutout lowered Nunez’s ERA to 1.97.

Two nights later, Immokalee’s quest for a district championship came up short in a 3-1 loss to Naples.

Okeechobee captured its district championship thanks to a 5-4 win against South Fork in the title game April 29 in Stuart. Elle Thomas, the starting shortstop, had one RBI as the Brahmans edged a team that they lost to 10-0 in the season opener.

Winners of the quarterfinal games advance to regional semifinals May 11. Immokalee and Okeechobee are in different regions of 5A. The only way they could meet is if they win their regions.
